The Hawaiian word for friendship and the central theme for Friendship Exchange programs is Pilialoha. You will have the opportunity to create relationships with your group as well as youth from the Hawaiian Islands. Together, you will learn about the Hawaiian Islands, its people, culture, natural environment, and even a little about yourself in the process. Use the Hawaiian Islands to explore the verdant forests as you weave your way around gigantic Banyan trees en route to a cascading waterfall. Snorkel among exotic fish and coral as you appreciate and learn about the beauty and fragility of this marine ecology. Discover the cultural boundaries and similarities between Hawaiian and Western cultures as you spend time with locals. You will be rewarded with an intense cultural experience by spending time away from the tourist areas and getting off the beaten path and challenging yourself to reach out to people from different backgrounds, build a community among your group, and share responsibilities such as meal planning, navigating and setting up camp.
